Al Brown dead: The Wire star tragically dies aged 83 after Alzheimer's battle

The Wire star Al Brown has died following an Alzheimer's battle, the Hollywood star's daughter has announced.

He was best known for playing Col. Stan Valchek on the hit show from 2002 to 2008.

Al appeared in all five seasons as Valchek, though he was most involved in the storylines in the second season.

His daughter Jenny confirmed that Al had passed away in Las Vegas on January 13 and "loved fans of his and was happy to stop and chat with anyone who might’ve recognised him from the show over the years".

Explaining that he "loved his job", Jenny told TMZ how her father had been a 29-year-old Air Force veteran who served two tours in Vietnam before getting into acting in the 1990s.

Al also guest starred in other TV shows such as Rescue Me, Forensic Files, Law & Order: SVU, Commander in Chief, Maron, The Hustler and many more popular programmes.

He also appeared in TV films like The Adversaries, Shot in the Heart, and Something the Lord Made.

Al also appeared in several feature films including 12 Monkeys, Liberty Heights, Red Dragon, and Lay the Favorite.

The actor also provided voiceover work for the 2007 video game The Darkness, branching out into another medium.

In addition to his acting work, Brown had previously served as an Air Force veteran with two tours in Vietnam.

He took exceptionally well to his new profession after getting into acting, as Al'd daughter Jenny said her famous father really loved his fans.

He was always "happy to stop and chat with anyone who might've recognized him from the show over the years," noting that he really "loved his job."

Brown is survived by his children and extended family.
