Air ambulance lands in south Manchester as woman injured after heavy duty equipment falls from trailer

An air ambulance landed in south Manchester on Thursday afternoon as a woman was left injured after heavy duty equipment fell from a trailer. Emergency services scrambled to the scene, on Anson Road (A34) shortly before 2pm.

There was a heavy police presence at the scene as a cordon was erected at the busy junction with Dickenson Road. An air ambulance also landed on Birchfields Park with a number of paramedics in attendance.

The injuries the woman sustained are not thought to be life threatening, police have said. The road closure caused heavy congestion and delays in the area, with bus routes diverted.

It is not yet known whether the casualty was taken to hospital via road ambulance or the air ambulance that landed nearby. Heavy duty equipment is understood to have fallen from a trailer, injuring the woman in the process.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "On Thursday 22 September 2022 at around 1:50pm we were called to an incident on Anson Road, Manchester.

"Emergency services responded to what is a road traffic collision with a road closure in place at the scene after a female received injuries thought not to be life threatening from a piece of heavy duty equipment falling from a trailer. Delays are expected in the area as the incident is still ongoing."

The North West Ambulance Service and the North West Air Ambulance Charity have been contacted for further details.
