Breakdown of new COVID cases in every South Lanarkshire neighbourhood

New coronavirus cases in South Lanarkshire fell by just five per cent last week.

Figures published by Public Health Scotland revealed that there were 409 new cases in the region between Sunday, December 6, and Saturday, December 12 - the lowest weekly total since the week beginning September 20.

Following three weeks in level four lockdown - the highest tier of the Scottish Government's system of coronavirus restrictions - weekly COVID-19 cases in South Lanarkshire are now down by 45 per cent.

However, last week saw cases almost double in Little Earnock while there was a near six-fold increase in Shawfield and Clincarthill.

Little Earnock saw 22 new cases last week - up from 12 the previous week - while Shawfield and Clincarthill saw 29  new coronavirus cases - up from just five the previous week.

That equates to 3.25 cases per 1000 residents in Little Earnock - the highest in the Hamilton area - and 8.28 per 1000 residents in Shawfield and Clincarthill - more than two and half times the next highest rate in Rutherglen and Cambuslang.

Whitehills West saw the most new cases in East Kilbride and Avondale at 15 while Carluke South had the most new cases in Clydesdale at seven.

Last week, Whitehills West saw 3.72 new cases for every 1000 residents while Carluke South saw 2.06 new cases for every 1000 residents.

A change in the way figures are reported by Public Health Scotland means data for neighbourhoods where less than three new cases were reported in a seven-day period will be suppressed.
