Breakdown of Cardinals roster based on experience

The Arizona Cardinals have both an old and a young team. They have a large number of rookies and first-year players. They also have many grizzled veterans.

Let’s see the breakdown of experience on the Cardinals offseason roster, currently at 89 players after the release of David Amerson on Thursday.

  • They have 24 rookies on the roster. 11 are draft picks and 13 were undrafted rookies who signed later.
  • They have six players listed as first-year players. They are not rookies because they are not coming straight out of college, but they have not yet accrued an NFL season.
  • 30 of their 89 players have not yet accrued a year in the NFL.
  • They have 14 second-year players.
  • They have 11 third-year players.
  • They have seven fourth-year players.
  • In all, 62 of their 89 are not yet vested veterans.
  • They have 27 players with at least four accrued seasons.
  • Five of them are entering at least their 10th season.
  • Of those 27 players, they are entering, on average, their eighth NFL season.
