Breakdown of all 1,622 coronavirus deaths in Merseyside and where they took place

Most of the coronavirus related deaths in Merseyside took place in hospital - offiical data has shown.

Overall, there have been 1,622 deaths across Merseyside involving Covid-19 between the start of the outbreak, in late January, to July 3.

Of those deaths, most (1,049) took place in hospital, with 464 in care homes.

There were also 76 deaths recorded at home, 15 in hospices, 11 in other communal establishments, and seven elsewhere.

Other communal establishments include prisons, halls of residence, hotels, and sheltered accommodation, while elsewhere covers deaths outside and people declared dead on arrival at hospital.

According to figures released by the Office for National Statistics, in the week ending July 3, 12 people died of Covid-19 related deaths in the county.

That was down from 14 the week before.

There is still cause to be wary however, with public health officials in Liverpool warning of a spike in cases, particularly in young people, and centred in the south of the city.

There have been around 30 cases of Covid-19 in the area over the last fortnight, with half of them in people aged 15 to 24.

The places affected also include Belle Vale, Childwall, Woolton, Allerton and Hunts Cross.

Mobile testing centres were set up in the Woolton area over the weekend, carrying out swab tests on people with symptoms who have pre-booked an appointment via the NHS website.

But numbers for the week ending July 3 include six deaths in hospitals, a fall from eight a week before, and five deaths in care homes, down from six.

The figures include people who died before July 3, but whose deaths were officially registered up to July 11, with Covid-19 mentioned on the death certificate.

Separate figures from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), show two deaths involving coronavirus in care homes in Merseyside in the week ending July 10.

That was down from four the week before.

The figures published yesterday show a total of 436 Covid-19 related deaths were notified to the CQC by care homes between April 10 and July 10.

Up to July 3, there had been 55,071 deaths registered across the UK with Covid-19 on the death certificate.

Of the deaths registered in the week ending July 3, 532 mentioned Covid-19, the lowest number of deaths involving Covid-19 in the past 15 weeks.

Overall, the number of deaths registered in England and Wales in the week ending July 3 was 9,140 - 161 higher than the week before but 0.5% (43 deaths) lower than the five-year average.

This is the third consecutive week that deaths have been below the five-year average.

The numbers of deaths in care homes and hospitals were also fewer than the five-year average (88 and 634 deaths lower respectively), while the number of deaths in private homes was 755 higher than the five-year average.
