Bread star Eileen Pollock dead at 73 as stars pay tribute

Bread star Eileen Pollock has died aged 73.

The actress was best known for her portrayal of 'Lilo' Lil in the Liverpool-based comedy.

Her family revealed she died peacefully at home in London on Sunday.

In a tribute they said they would remember Eileen as an "actor, writer and storyteller" and described her as a "dear sister, loved aunt and great aunt.

They said: "Your beauty, laughter and loving eyes gave joy to all" - reports Mirror Online.

Actor Dan Gordon, who stared alongside Eileen's in Women of the verge of HR, told the Irish News : "We used to call her 'Polly's People' because she picked up all the waifs and strays along the way and would never see them stuck.

"She'd meet someone in the town when we were on tour and say, 'they're down on their luck' and would bring them to see the show and buy them a drink afterwards.

"She was great fun and the one thing I remember is that I never saw her angry. I never once seen her cross with anyone.

"She was an extraordinary woman, a beautiful person."

Eileen was best known for starring in the hit BBC series Bread between 1986 and 1991.

Speaking about her time on the show in 2004, she said: "I like it when someone says in a supermarket 'you know who you remind me of, don't take offence, that tart from Bread.'"

She also delighted audiences with appearances in numerous pantomimes - which she said fulfilled a childhood dream of hers.

She said: "The wicked witch is wonderful because I can't stand children and making them want to cry and scream is a wonderful battle of wits."
