Brazilian legend Rivaldo explains why he sees 'great' things for Everton

Brazilian legend Rivaldo believes the signings of Allan and James Rodriguez will ensure Everton enjoy a good season.

The Blues got off to the perfect start at the weekend as they beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin's second-half header proving decisive.

It was the newly-formed midfield trio of Andre Gomes, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan that really caught the eye, with Rodriguez playing narrow from the right.

The ex-Real Madrid man looked in fine form as he drifted inside to cause havoc for the Spurs backline, with Everton's new signings causing all sorts of problems.

Equally, Allan, brought in by Carlo Ancelotti after their time together at Napoli, was named man of the match as he added the bite and tenacity Everton's midfield has lacked for a number of years.

His performance, alongside that of Rodriguez, impressed fellow Brazilian Rivaldo, who is predicting a strong campaign for Everton after watching their new additions gel immediately.

"My compatriot Allan immediately proved his value with a good performance in Everton's win at Spurs, so I must congratulate him for that," Rivaldo told Betfair.

"I think he has qualities to perform well for Everton and at the same time keep staking his claim for a place in the Brazilian team for Copa America.

"Carlo Ancelotti already had a strong squad, but with the recent signings of Allan and James Rodriguez, they have a good chance of producing a great campaign this season and fighting for European places.

"With Allan and James combining well in the midfield, and Richarlison storming at the attack, I'm predicting a good season for Everton."
