Brazilian protestors to descend on Dublin city centre as part of major global protests

The Brazilian community in Ireland is to hold a demonstration at The Spire in Dublin this evening to voice their frustration against Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro's government and its handling of Covid-19.

The protest will take place at 6pm today, at the Spire.

The event is being organised by the Brazilian Left Front (BLF), and since June, Galway, Cork and Dublin have registered demonstrations with many Brazilians and supporters occupying the streets to show their support for those back home.

Over five hundred cities all over the world registered some action and rallies demanding the impeachment.

On the 3rd of July, the Spire of Dublin was also occupied by Brazilians mobilised against the "necropolitics and hunger" that they claim their home country is experiencing.

A spokeswoman for the Brazilian Left Front said that today's protests are a way of showing solidarity.

She said: "BLF is calling protests in Cork and Dublin today as a way to show solidarity with those in Brazil fighting for the impeachment of Bolsonaro, against his authoritarian and genocidal government.

"We stand in support to those impacted by the pandemic and to access fundamental human rights.

"So far, 29 places around the world are holding protests today."
