Brazil team doctor issues injury update on Manchester United forward Antony

Brazil's national team doctor has revealed that Antony has missed Manchester United's last three matches due to a hip injury.

The 22-year-old missed games against West Ham United, Real Sociedad and Aston Villa and it is unclear whether he will feature in either of United's two upcoming matches.

Antony has been named in the Brazil squad for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar but might not be risked by Erik ten Hag when United face Aston Villa in the League Cup on Thursday and Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.

Speaking after the Brazil squad was revealed on Monday, national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar provided an update on Antony's situation and said the forward is yet to return to group training with his teammates.

“Antony had a small problem in the flexor muscles of the right hip, he is in the recovery process,” Lasmar said. “We’re in contact with the player, with the medical department. He’s in a recovery phase. We have time for him to recover in time to be with us. This week is important, we are talking day by day. This final phase is important.

“A lot depends on this week. I spoke to him in the morning, he’s feeling better, it’s early. He hasn’t started training with the group yet, he’s in physical therapy.”

Antony is one of four United players named in the Brazil squad for the World Cup along with Fred, Casemiro and Sevilla loanee Alex Telles.
