Edinson Cavani has been backed to consider shining for Manchester United by Brazilian icon Rivaldo after penning a new contract with the club.
The experienced Uruguayan forward saw the one-year deal he signed upon his arrival on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain expire next month but there were increased calls for that to be extended after some stellar performances.
Cavani fired a brace in both legs of United 's Europa League semi-final victory against Roma and, ahead of the final against Villarreal, is tied down for another year.
United had an option to extend Cavani's contract for another 12 months and that clause has now been activated, with all parties agreeing to the deal.
Having initially taken time to settle into English football, coming on the back of months without any playing time, Cavani has sprung to life in the second half of the season to be a key player.
His influence both on and off the field has been integral to United's success and Rivaldo believes there is much more to come from the forward.
"Manchester United and Edinson Cavani reached an agreement this week to extend the Uruguayan striker's contract for another season which is a proof of confidence from the club," he told Betfair.
"Cavani had a tough start to the season showing some difficulties to adapt to English football, but now he is perfectly integrated and in great form, scoring many goals in the last few months.
"I like him as a player and I'm sure he will have success with the Red Devils just like he had with all the other clubs he played for."
Cavani has netted 15 goals and contributed six assists in 37 appearances across all competitions for United, sitting behind only Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford in the scoring charts.
