Brazil legend Rivaldo has claimed that Manchester United's players need to 'adopt' the mentality of Fred.
Fred arrived at Old Trafford for £52m from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018 and he's since become a polarising figure among supporters.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked as United boss last month after the Reds' 4-1 defeat at Watford, but the Norwegian placed great trust in Fred across his tenure, often starting the 28-year-old alongside Scott McTominay in the double pivot in midfield.
The midfielder has started 13 times for United this season and Rivaldo thinks that Fred has set the example for his teammates.
"United have been criticised for not pressing their opponents but the Brazilian midfielder Fred always gives everything and presses opponents all the time," Rivaldo told Betfair.
"This is the kind of mentality that all United's players need to adopt. Rangnick's mission will be getting his players to press higher and collectively which will approximate them to success.
"There's still time for them to recover this season and at least fight for a trophy. They must grow in confidence. The arrival of a new manager always creates new motivation in a team.
"The manager won't solve all issues because it's the players that go on to the pitch, but new ideas and methods always give a boost to a group of players."
