Brazil hand Man City fans encouraging timeline on Gabriel Jesus return

Brazil have called Manchester City Gabriel Jesus up to their squad for the November internationals, despite Pep Guardiola saying the striker could still be two weeks away from resuming training.

Jesus has been out since the opening day win over Wolves, with Guardiola warning that the striker has a delicate injury that must be managed carefully to avoid aggravating his muscles further.

Last week, Guardiola suggested Jesus was still a few weeks away from resuming City training, but the striker himself posted on Instagram that he was back on the training pitch this week.

Speaking ahead of the trip to West Ham, Guardiola suggested Jesus is closer to a return, but might still be a fortnight away from coming back as he is still not training with the group.

"He's getting better but a tough injury," Guardiola said.

"Hopefully, still he couldn't train with us. He will be ready when he does train because he gets the form quickly but maybe one week, two weeks before that."

That could rule Jesus out of City's next four fixtures, with the home fixture against Liverpool before the next international break perhaps a date for him to return.

But now the striker has been named in the Brazil squad for the international break directly after that Liverpool game, with players set to be with their countries from November 9.

With Jesus deemed a realistic option for Brazil, City fans will be hoping he can return before that, and will at the very least be ready for the trip to Tottenham on November 21 when the Premier League resumes.

Ederson is also named in the squad after initially being dropped from the October squad before being added as replacement for injured Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson. Now, though, he and Alisson are both back in the group.

Brazil face Venezuela and Uruguay in World Cup qualifiers.
