Brazil and Switzerland make decisions on Newcastle stars Bruno and Schar for World Cup clash

Newcastle United stars Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar will both start on the bench as Brazil face Switzerland at the World Cup. Neither started for their respective country in the opening round of fixtures, and will have to hope to make an appearance as a substitute in Monday's Group G clash.

Guimaraes' sparkling form was not enough to earn him a place in Tite's starting eleven as Brazil swept aside Serbia in their first match in Qatar. A brace from Richarlison secured a 2-0 victory, and the Newcastle midfielder was an unused substitute.

It was the same story for Schar for Switzerland, who earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Cameroon. Manuel Akanji and Nico Elvedi were preferred at the heart of defence, and Breel Embolo's goal was enough to hand Murat Yakin's side all three points.

Neymar's injury saw Brazil boss turn to Fred instead of Guimaraes, with his former Lyon team-mate Lucas Paqueta likely to be pushed into a more advanced role. Having kept a clean sheet in their opening win, Yakin unsurprisingly decided to name an unchanged centre-back partnership, leaving Schar on the sidelines.

The winners of the contest at Stadium 974 in Doha will book their place in the second round with a match to spare. Cameroon and Serbia both have one point after playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw earlier on Monday.
