Brazen thief smashes car window and steals woman's purse and bag at Shanganagh cemetery in Dublin

Brazen thieves smashed a window and stole a bag and purse from a car in a Dublin cemetery as the owner stood beside it.

The shocking incident happened in Shanganagh Cemetery in Shankill on Sunday afternoon.

And the heartless thug who broke into the car then fled the scene by jumping into a silver 08 car that was waiting nearby.

It is the latest in a series of break-ins at the cemetery, Dublin Live reports.

A post on a local forum said: "My friend's car was broken into yesterday afternoon at Shanganagh grave yard.

"She was standing right beside her car when this happened. They got her handbag and purse from the car and then ran off and jumped into a silver 08 car.

"She was standing by her car when this happened which didn't seem to bother the lad who done it so I would be very careful about bringing any bags or purses to that place as this has happened to loads of people up there recently."

Disgusted locals also shared their stories of having their cars broken into at the resting place.

One said: "Where my bag was stolen there was CCTV so not getting my hopes up but would like my bag back as a really good bag.

"Hope they enjoyed spending the approx €5 in the bag. I had the cards cancelled within min. But just so much grief cancelling the cards and getting new cards."

While another added: "It happens all the time there. Mine was taken a few years ago."

Mourners have also been left devastated as sentimental items have been stolen from loved ones' resting place.

As reported by Dublin Live last month , the heartless robberies seem to be happening in cemeteries across Wicklow and Dublin, including Shanganagh Cemetery.

Items such as plaques, bouquets of flowers and other sentimental trinkets have been stolen.
