Brazen Glasgow thief swipes businessman's £8k bag of cash in Maryhill as police investigate

A Glasgow businessman has appealed for information after a bag containing £7,000 - £8,000 was swiped in Maryhill.

The brazen thief pounced after Joe Harvie accidentally dropped the bag as he left his car to go to the office.

Posting the appeal on Facebook, later shared on community page No1Seems2Care, Joe explained he saw the man pick up something beside his car, but by the time he realised what it was it was too late. The bag contained wages for Joe's employees as well as spending money for his upcoming holiday.

The Glaswegian said officers have found CCTV footage of the opportunist thief snatching the money and police have confirmed to Glasgow Live they are investigating the incident.

"Today was bank run day it was supposed to be going into the bank. I saw the guy pick up something beside the car and it never dawned on me till I got inside the office that I had dropped it and by the time I got back outside he was gone.

"The police have him on cctv picking it up.

"If anyone here knows anything about this could they be kind enough to let me know please?"

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a sum of cash stolen on Gairbraid Avenue around 8.40am on Thursday, 1 July.

“Enquiries into the incident are currently ongoing.”
