Brazen e-bikers 'travelling across Edinburgh attempting to steal vehicles'

Brazen e-bikers are alleged to be travelling across West Edinburgh attempting to steal vehicles and raiding garden sheds. Video's captured by two local residents show three young males have been caught on camera riding on electric-powered bikes in Clovenstone Park and Sighthill Avenue.

The first video was captured by Donna Heath in Wester Hailes who told Edinburgh Live the brazen trio were caught in the act of trying to steal her son’s quad bike by a neighbour. In the footage, two youths can be seen standing their e-bike up on the road in front of a stairwell and making their way towards the bin area of the communal block with a tool in their hand.

Another youth remains on a bike and appears as though they are keeping an eye out for any passersby. On the incident that occurred at 00:56am on Monday July 25, Donna said: “They tried to steal my son’s quad that was being stored in the bin area outside my stair door.

“They used a crowbar to burst open the bin area. My neighbour shouted and asked what they were doing.

"They said they were waiting on a friend but my neighbour then told them the bike was not working. They then decided to drive away whilst laughing and shouting ‘your lucky it doesn’t start or we would have taken it.’

"Excuse my French, but these little b******s need a good kick up the a**e. It’s shocking that we all work hard for stuff and they come along and steal it.

“How would they like us stealing stuff from their parents? It’s not nice at all. It is the fact that they have tried to steal from my son and not me - I have been out driving the street looking for them but no joy yet.”

The second video, which was shared anonymously, shows what appears to be the same youths at around 00:42am on Monday July 25, “checking sheds” on Sighthill Avenue.

The video was shared in the hope that neighbours and those living in the Sighthill community could be on high alert, ensuring that their sheds, bikes and other vehicles were adequately secured. In this footage, one of the suspected thieves can be seen riding half way up the driveway before they are passed by a member of the trio on foot.

The person on foot makes their way towards the garage/shed at the foot of the driveway with what looks like a grey bag flung over their shoulder. All three of those involved have covered their faces and are seen to be clad in all black.

A neighbour, as well as a vehicle, appear to drive past the other two youths who are performing wheelies at the entrance of the driveway, as their alleged accomplice inspects the garage/shed. It is understood that they were not successful in taking anything that belonged to the homeowner.

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
