'Brazen and confronting': man brandishes sawn-off gun in Hobart pub robbery

Police are yet to say how much money was robbed on Friday night.

Police are hunting a man who robbed the Claremont Hotel bottle shop at gunpoint on Friday night.

Police say that at about 7.20pm a man threatened staff with a shortened firearm and demanded money before fleeing the scene on foot.

Detective Inspector Craig Joel said the crime was "brazen and confronting".

"These crimes have a real effect, not only on the staff inside the store, but people who use that store," he said.

Detective Joel said that no one was injured, but a female assistant confronted by the offender was "very shaken".

He commended the "exceptional job" of staff involved who remained calm, and who followed protocol.

Glenorchy CIB is investigating the incident, and wants to speak to anyone with information.

The robber was last seen running on Cadbury Road, wearing a black, long-sleeved top, black Hurley-branded track pants, and black runners.

The man is described as 180cm tall, medium to solid build, and has short or shaved hair.

Police are yet to confirm the amount of cash stolen at this stage of investigations.

Shortly before the robbery, a shot was fired at a house in Gagebrook.

"The residents of that house are known to police. We don't believe it's a random act," Detective Joel said.

He said police were not ruling out a connection between the two incidents.

A woman inside the home reported the shooting to police, and is assisting them with their investigations.
