Brazen Airdrie man who ignored driving ban put behind bars

A brazen Airdrie man who drove while banned will spend the next two months behind bars – and five years off the road – after his grim record caught up with him.

Connor Paterson also got behind the wheel without insurance on April 19 in a place where it wasn’t hard to trace him – his home street of Thrashbush Quadrant.

After being caught, the 20-year-old owned up to both offences and made his way back into the dock at Airdrie Sheriff Court for sentencing last week following the completion of background reports.

His defence lawyer recognised his client’s “poor record” placed him in difficulty before adding he was suitable for supervision.

But Sheriff Derek O’Carroll was unimpressed with Paterson’s behaviour and sentenced him to two months in a young offenders’ institution.

The sheriff revealed this was “due to your [Paterson’s} previous convictions” and was “reduced from five months” because of his plea.
