Bray soup run volunteers slam vile vandalism of tents

A Bray volunteer group that supports homeless people living in the area have slammed the callous vandalism of tents in the area.

Yesterday evening, a gang of 20 youths allegedly threw eggs at rough sleepers' tents and belongings causing serious physical damage as well as emotional turmoil.

The Bray Area Rough Sleepers Support (BARSS) is a group of locals that do soup runs 365 days a year, including Christmas Day.

They came across the horrific act while doing their usual rounds in the area.

Angela O'Donnell volunteers with BARSS and believes that incidents like this one do not reflect the vast majority of the community.

She said: "It's thankfully a very isolated incident here in Bray.

"We are basically a soup run and we stop in four or five places throughout the town where our clients know we are going to be at a designated time.

"We are just normal Joes that come together on an ad hoc basis.

"These kinds of incidents are very rare around Bray in so far as we are aware but obviously it is a cause of great distress and creates feelings of insecurity and feeling unsafe.

"Fundamentally, tents are these people's homes.

"It's the same as your house or flat being burgled or being damaged.

"It equates to exactly the same thing. It's an attack on your very personal, private space."
