Braxton Berrios is impatiently waiting for the football season

New England Patriots receiver Braxton Berrios seems ready to get the football season going. He took to Twitter on Sunday to share a brief thought: he’s “impatiently waiting” for football.

Aren’t we all.

Berrios is one of a few players who is already spending time around Gillette Stadium in preparation for training camp, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss. Veterans don’t have to report until July 24 and rookies will arrive on July 21. But Berrios apparently is finding ways to make sure he’s ready for the first practice of camp on July 25 when he’ll hope to continue to build upon his strong performances during organized team activities and minicamp.

Berrios, a 2018 seventh-round draft choice, spent his rookie season on injured reserve. He wasn’t much of a standout during training camp last season, which was to be expected for the youngster who played slot at Miami in college. An undersized option at 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds, Berrios figures to play a role similar to the one that Danny Amendola once played: slot option and punt returner. However, the slot position can take significant time to learn in New England’s offense. That’s why his strong performances in the spring were notable. Perhaps he is setting himself up nicely to take a second-year leap in the Patriots offense.

In his final college season, Berrios had 55 receptions for 679 yards and nine touchdowns. He’ll be competing for a roster spot in a receiver group that includes Julian Edelman, N’Keal Harry, Phillip Dorsett, Demaryius Thomas, Josh Gordon, Dontrelle Inman and Maurice Harris, among others.
