Brawl erupts outside Selfridges as police probe 'assault on security guard'

Footage captured the moment a brawl erupted outside a Selfridge's department store that led to a security guard being assaulted, police say.

The shocking clip was captured in Birmingham city centre, with the fight reportedly starting after a row about a customer entering the store with rollerblades.

A security worker at the Bullring shopping centre store is seen in the footage, alongside another man as violence erupts.

The incident unfolded on September 26, in front of gobsmacked shoppers in the city centre.

One man can be heard saying "chill man" before the video ends.

Selfridges said police were called to the scene after trouble flared when a member of the public tried to enter the shop with rollerblades, reports Birmingham Live.

A Selfridges spokesperson said: “An altercation took place on the evening of Saturday 26 September at the front of our Birmingham store, between a man carrying rollerblades attempting to enter the store and a security guard.

"The latter half of the incident was captured on a smart phone.

"We take the safety and security of our staff and colleagues very seriously and we are fully investigating the situation.”

A man can be seen wearing no shoes with a pair of rollerblades discarded nearby.

One person commented: "Still shocking scenes to see in a public place."
