Braves-Rockies game postponed because of ‘unplayable’ field

ATLANTA — Thursday’s Braves-Colorado Rockies game at Truist Park was postponed because of inclement weather and unplayable field conditions.

The teams don’t have a mutual open date remaining on the schedule, so the earliest the game could be rescheduled would be Oct. 4, the day after the end of the regular season, if necessary.

The game had been scheduled for a 12:20 p.m. start Thursday, but the Braves said in a noon statement: “Due to the rain last night and continued rain this morning, our field crew needs some additional time to prep the playing field for today’s game. We are hoping for a 2:15 projected start time.”

But at 2:05 p.m., it was announced the game would not be played Thursday. Braves manager Brian Snitker said the field was simply not playable at that point and wouldn’t have gotten any better in the hours ahead even without further rain.

The Braves start a three-city road trip Friday with the opener of a three-game series at San Francisco.
