Braves optimistic Max Fried won't miss start

LOS ANGELES _ The Braves and lefty Max Fried are hopeful he'll make his next scheduled start. Fried left Tuesday's outing in Los Angeles after he was hit in the left hand by a comebacker in the second inning.

Fried threw two warm-up pitches before the team opted to remove him. He felt he was lucky to avoid any broken bones.

"I saw him when he came in," manager Brian Snitker said. "He had good strength, threw the ball around. I think he'll be fine."

Fried will throw a bullpen session Thursday or Friday. If all goes well, he'd start Sunday in Arizona.

The Southern California native was putting together a breakout season entering Tuesday. He hadn't allowed more than two runs in any start, becoming the most consistent starter in the Braves' rotation.
