Braves infielder Johan Camargo injured his right knee when trotting out to the field in the top of the first inning Tuesday.
While running out from the dugout for the series opener against the Phillies, he landed awkwardly on his right leg as he did his signature hop across the first-base line.
His cleat stuck into the turf, and he fell immediately to the ground, grabbing at his knee in pain.
The Braves announced it in the second inning as a hyperextended right knee. He's expected to be further evaluated after an MRI Tuesday night.
Camargo stayed on the ground as trainers came out and checked on him. He had to be helped into the dugout and tunnel without putting much pressure on the leg.
Jace Peterson came in to replace him at shortstop. Camargo has held the position regularly since Dansby Swanson was sent to Triple A almost two weeks ago. Swanson was pulled from Gwinnett's game in the third inning after Camargo's injury.
