Bravehearts Boxing Gym's Scotsathlon 2019 will be bigger than ever

Bravehearts Boxing Gym has launched this year’s prime action charity challenge.

Scotsathlon 2019 will see members of the Hamilton gym swim 1.5 miles across Loch Lomond, hike 7.5 miles up Ben Lomond’s Ptarmigan Ridge, and cycle 50 miles around Loch Lomond.

An overnight camp and medal presentation will follow the challenge.

The event is on Saturday, May 25, and is to raise at least £5000 for three charities – Eilidh’s Rainbow Room (in memory of tragic Blantyre kid Eilidh Dempsey), Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and the British Heart Foundation.

Steven McMillan, who owns the Low Waters Road gym, started the Scotsathlon challenge three years ago with just six people, but now expects at least 40 will take part.

He said: “The Scotsathlon keeps getting bigger and better. We had six in the first year, 17 last year and we’ll have at least 40 this year.

“We’re raising money for three charities that are all close to our hearts.

“I’m hoping for good weather for the challenge, last year it was perfect, but whatever it may be just adds to the challenge.

“We’re always raising money for charity, this is the biggest event, but we’re also doing a cycle from the Braveheart gym to Mallaig, 160 miles in a day, in July.”

Anyone who wants to hike up Ben Lomond and/or camp overnight should contact Steven on 07722 807245.

If you would like to donate to the challenge, their Just Giving page is at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/bravehearts
