Brave Vicky Phelan to give cancer update in Late Late Show appearance with Ryan Tubridy

Brave Cervical Cancer campaigner Vicky Phelan will appear on the Late Late Show on Friday night.

Host Ryan Tubridy will speak with the Limerick native, who recently returned home from medical treatment in the United States.

In her latest update on her battle, Vicky told her large online following that she is now in palliative care and is hoping to get to Christmas in a good condition to spend time with her family.

In a video recently uploaded to her Instagram account, the mum-of-two said she has lost her hair after just one round of chemo, but is now "stating to get used to it."

She has now undergone four rounds of therapy, but is opting not to do a fifth in hopes of being able to enjoy the festive season.

“Knowing my luck, I’d end up in there over Christmas, and with Covid, no one would be able to visit me so I just decided after those 10 to 12 days of horrendous side effects, I’m not doing this anymore,” she said.

Instead, Vicky is opting to just take Pembrolizumab instead, even though “it probably won’t work”.

“It might keep me stable for a couple of weeks and that’s all I want. I just want another few weeks, until Christmas, to stay as stable as I am at the moment.”

Meanwhile, Christy Moore and comedian Mario Rosenstock will also appear on the show, which kicks-off on RTE One at 9.35pm on Friday night.
