A 17-year-old boldly shoved a brown bear off a fence in order to protect her pet dogs, CCTV shows.
The teen, Hailey Morinico, walked out of her California home to find out why the dogs were barking, only to spot the huge predator grabbing one of them.
Without a second thought, she ran at the bear, pushing it from the wall it was perched on, before picking up her pets and rushing into her house.
The drama unfolded in California on Monday, and the video has since been viewed nearly 50 million times on TikTok.
Hailey's cousin Brenda shared the surveillance camera on social media.
She later said in a TikTok video: “I was in the mountains so that is actually really normal and it’s summer so they always come now.
“This is our garden area and the dogs start barking, and I just thought they were barking at dogs, because they always bark at dogs and squirrels or whatever.
"I go to tell them to stop and when I go over there to see what they’re barking at, I’m like ‘that’s a funny-looking dog’.
"By the time I get there, the bear is literally picking up one of my dogs."
It was at this point that she decided to take on the dangerous animal.
She said: “I go over to the bear, I look it in the eyes, and the first thing I think to do is push it. Push a bear, push an apex predator.
"To be honest, I don’t think I pushed her that hard. I just pushed her enough to make her lose her balance, so she dropped my dog and I ran out of there.
"I grabbed my other dog, I sprained my finger and scraped my knee, but we’re all OK."
Her mum Citlally Morinico wrote on Facebook : “My child [Hailey] just saved our dog with super human strength.
“For me one of the scariest moments of my life.”
Hailey's cousin posted: “My cousin Hailey just fought a f–king mama bear and won!” How’s your Memorial Day weekend?!”
