Brave teacher steps in to save 14-year-old schoolboy from gang attack

A teacher courageously stepped between a schoolboy and a gang of youths who were punching him and hitting him with parts of a bike.

The sustained attack by what’s believed to be up to five youths happened in Liscard, Wirral on Monday night.

Officers were called at 5pm after reports of a 14-year-old boy being assaulted by a group of youths in Earlston Gardens on Earlston Road.

Police said a member of the public, believed to be a female teacher out walking her dog, intervened to stop the sustained attack.

The 14-year-old boy is said to have suffered facial injuries that were not serious during the assault.

On social media, a family member posted about the attack, saying the boy “managed to hold his own” against to the group until the passing teacher got between the boy and the gang.

She is then said to have been "assaulted, spat at, and called numerous obscenities" before the gang made off on bikes in the direction of Seaview Road.

An investigation is underway and CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Laura Lamping said: “This will have been a shocking incident to both experience and witness and our enquiries are continuing to find out who was responsible.

“Although the victim was thankfully only left with superficial injuries, the psychological impact is harder to measure.
