Brave schoolboy, 10, vows to be 'up and about soon' after having foot amputated

A schoolboy has vowed to quickly bounce back after having his foot amputated following a road accident, his family has said.

10-year-old Harry Gibson was hit by a car in Gosforth, Newcastle, on May 19, with doctors then informing him his right foot could not be saved, reports Chronicle Live.

The Gosforth Central Middle School pupil has been documenting his time in Royal Victoria Infirmary on TikTok, including speaking of his regret about the prospect of losing a limb.

The football fanatic said: "It's been really hard. I've got some extremely bad news. My foot has to be cut off, it has to be gone.

"It's really bad for me, I don't want it to happen. But it has to go. It's really bad news."

The operation took place on Thursday and Harry remains in hospital as he recovers from the surgery.

His family say the brave lad is looking forward to getting back up again.

His dad Guy, 45, mum Donna, 32, and brother Jack, eight, are awaiting his return home.

Guy, a gas technician, from Gosforth, said: "Harry is in good spirits. He says he can't wait to get out of hospital and get on with his life. He just wants to get back to normal as soon as he can."

He explained the accident happened after Harry spotted a friend on the other side and stepped into the road.

He was then struck by a car. The family do not believe the driver was to blame.

Harry now hopes to become an ambassador for road safety and wants to raise awareness.

It is also hoped that a prosthetic foot can be fitted for him in the future.

Loved ones have started a fundraising drive to support the family and nearly £3,000 has already been raised through a Gofundme page.
