Brave paddleboarder helps Coast Guard and lifeboats rescue five people stranded by tide in Portmarnock

A brave paddleboarder helped the Irish Coast Guard and the RNLI Lifeboats rescue five people after they were left stranded by the tide out in Portmarnock.

The courageous boarder saved three people from a situation that "could have been quite serious" according to an RNLI spokesperson.

The group were caught out by a flood tide at the Baldoyle Estuary, the spokesperson told Dublin Live.

Rescue 116, the Dublin-based Irish Coast Guard helicopter, flew to the scene and was captured mid-rescue by a number of locals in the area.

One person was rescued by lifeboat, with another winched up by the rescue helicopter.

The other three were all brought to shore by the heroic paddleboarder who came out to them.

Thankfully, there are no major injuries to report between the group of five.
