Brave Lily inspired by Captain Tom Moore to take her first steps since last year

Brave Perth cancer fighter Lily Douglas has been inspired by Capt Tom Moore to take on her own charity challenge.

The 13-year-old has been battling Ewing’s sarcoma for the past four years.

And despite not having walked since last year, she is determined to get on her feet to honour the man who touched the nation.

Sir Tom, who died on Tuesday at the age of 100, helped raise over £33 million for NHS charities by walking laps of his garden.

And Lily is now also wanting to do her bit for the NHS.

Mum Jane Douglas revealed on Facebook: "So, Lily and I have decided in honour of today's sad news about Sir Captain Tom, Lily, who has not walked since last year, is determined to take a few steps on her frame and push through in order to raise much needed money for the NHS.

"There are departments so strapped for money due to a big chunk needed to help COVID. Lets give them some help, every £1 counts if that's all you can afford great, if more even better."

Talented dancer Lily has already smashed her fundraising target of £500 before she even takes her steps.

The St John’s Academy pupil was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma when she was nine.

After undergoing intensive treatment, she was given the all clear in 2018, but her family then got the devastating news the cancer had returned to her lungs.

Because of her condition, she has been unable to see many family and friend during the pandemic and also suffered a stroke.

She is currently taking part in a new clinical trial at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London similar to one she had initially been due to start before lockdown.

A JustGiving page has been set up for anyone wanting to support Lily.
