Brave Lanarkshire mum is this week's Say It With Flowers recipient

A woman forced to jump from a third floor window after her neighbour’s flat caught fire has been praised for her bravery.

Shelley Graham has been recuperating at her daughter’s home in Coltness, Wishaw, since the devastating fire at her Cambusnethan home in July this year.

Now the 46-year-old has been praised for her courage and resolve by her family, who nominated her for the Wishaw Press' 'Say it With Flowers'.

Daughter Gemma told Lanarkshire Live: “There was fire in the bottom flat and my mum had to jump from the third floor living room window.

She broke her pelvis and her knee was completely shattered. She has had three surgeries so far at Wishaw General and it has been a long road to recovery. It will probably be about a year before she is walking properly again, but she is getting there slowly but surely.”

Despite her ordeal, the selfless mum-of-three has continued to be devoted to her three daughters - Jaimee-Lee, Kaci and Gemma - and grandson, Easton.

Gemma says he mum has spent her life caring for her family since her husband Ian sadly passed away 12 years ago.

However, it has been a long road to recovery for the former Coltness High pupil, who is currently recuperating after her ordeal.

Shelley has had to undergo gruelling sessions of physiotherapy at Wishaw General each week since the devastating fire more than three months ago.

And Gemma was also full of praise for the nurses and doctors who had cared for her mum during her recent stay at the hospital, saying: “I would like to thank the staff of ward 14 at Wishaw General who were brilliant with her.”

And when Gemma told us about her amazing mum Shelley, we were thrilled to help, surprising her with this stunning floral arrangement, courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals in Newmains.

“I think she will probably start crying. It will be a nice surprise for her,” said Gemma.
