Brave homeowners catch thieves in act but they still escape with money in Palmerstown

Brave south Dublin homeowners who caught thieves in the act as they broke into their house over the weekend were extremely disappointed to find that the thugs still managed to steal money from the property.

The pair had their house broken into in Palmerstown on Saturday night at 8:30pm by brazen robbers while they were inside.

Despite scaring the thieves enough to make them flee the scene, they did manage to escape with cash from the house.

Their daughter told a local Facebook group: "My parents' house was broken into on Elderwood Road.

"My parents were in the house at the time. The thieves ran off as soon as they realised someone was in the house but they managed to take my mother's handbag."

She added: "It has been reported to the Garda. Just to let you know in case someone finds a green handbag thrown somewhere."

A spokesman for the gardai said that the thieves made away with a small sum of cash during the burglary.

He added that no injuries were sustained during the break-in and investigations are ongoing.
