Brave homeowner catches thieves in act in kitchen and gives chase in Castleknock

A brave north Dublin homeowner chased thieves out of his house after catching them in the act in the kitchen.

The man arrived home from work to find the alarm going off in the house which is situated near the GAA club in Castleknock.

He came across two men in his kitchen and immediately chased after them until they fled the scene.

He said: "They ran across the green and got into a black hatchback and escaped.

"They broke in through the back door which had hardened glass and appeared to be secure."

Thankfully, nothing was taken from the apartment but the homeowner warned locals of suspicious activity in the area.

He said: "Gardai mentioned that thieves tend to rob houses earlier recently rather then later in the night as there are a lot of checkpoints as a result of gang violence in Dublin West."

A spokesman for Gardai told Dublin Live: "Gardaí are investigating a suspected burglary incident that occurred at approximately 9.45pm Thursday 26 September 2019 at a house in Castleknock, Dublin 15."

They added: "Initial investigations indicate two males fled the scene when they were interrupted by a male living at the property.

"It’s understood nothing was taken. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."
