Brave Edinburgh man chases off motorbike thieves after friend's bike nicked

An Edinburgh man was horrified after his motorbike was stolen outside his home.

Ewan Black, 22, who works in the poultry industry, is desperate for anyone with any information to come forward to help him find his blue and black Lexmoto LXS.

He relies heavily on the bike to be able to get to and from work and the blow of having it stolen is devastating in the middle of a cost of living crisis.

The theft is believed to have taken place on Easter Sunday April 9 at Imrie Place in Penicuik and could have happened between the hours of 6pm and midnight.

Unbelievably, his friend who is also a motorbike owner, had to chase off thieves who were trying to steal his vehicle at Glaskhill Terrace later that night - he said that it appeared as though they were on the back of his bike.

The bike is described as having LXS stickers on it with an L plate attached to the back and it also has dark blue brake levers, bar end mirrors as well as visible damage to the right hand side bottom panel.

“This has had a very big impact. I’m waiting on the claims team to get back in touch with me but I used my bike almost seven days a week to get to work and also just to generally commute,” he said.

“I bought it brand new almost a year ago. To see it gone missing is heartbreaking.”

“My partner and I went over to Lidl and got back at around 6pm. I then covered my bike and put my steering lock on as I normally do.

“I always check on my bike before I go to bed and I looked out the window and it was not there. My heart sank.

“I went outside just to make sure I was seeing this but it was definitely not there. It was just my cover left on the ground.

“I have asked the Indian restaurant at the bottom of the street for CCTV footage. But I’ve not got a clue what time it was taken.

“Ten minutes after noticing my bike had been stolen my mate that lives at Glaskhill Terrace had to chase off two young guys that were at his bike. They had gotten through one of his chains and damaged the front wheel.

“He reckons they were on my stolen bike at the time but not 100 per cent certain due to the time of day.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ”We received a report of a stolen motorbike from an address in Imrie Place, Penicuik. Enquiries are ongoing and if anyone knows where their bike is, they are asked to call 101 quoting 0341 of 9 April, 2023."
