Brave Dun Laoghaire Coast Guard and RNLI rescue man who fell into water while fishing

Brave members of the Dun Laoghaire RNLI and Coast Guard rushed to help a man who had fallen into the water while fishing today.

The man was placed onto the RNLI lifeboat, which along with the coast guard, responded to the scene within five minutes of being called out.

Thanks to the snap thinking of the group the angler was fishing with, the emergency services were quickly on scene following the scary incident.

He was taken to Dun Laoghaire harbour and assessed, and then given care by a HSE ambulance crew who checked on his injuries.

Mark McGibney, Dun Laoghaire RNLI Lifeboat Coxswain said: "The outcome of this incident was a positive one and the group of anglers who were with the man when the incident happened did the right thing by calling the Irish Coast Guard and asking for help.

"It is important that shore anglers remember that should they get into difficulty or see someone getting into difficulty to dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Irish Coast Guard."

While the Dun Laoghaire coast guard added: "Irish Coast Guard - Dun Laoghaire responded to a casualty who had slipped and gone into the water while fishing off the West Pier.

"A team was quickly on scene and assisted the casualty along with other members of the public & fisherman who gave help.

"RNLI Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat Station ILB was tasked to assist along with National Ambulance Service (NAS) Advance Paramedics & Paramedics.

"The casualty was swiftly recovered by the RNLI ILB crew and taken back to the RNLI station were an ambulance was waiting to provide further medical care. Thank you to all for their assistance."
