Brave Dubliners to abseil down Smithfield's 'scary' Skyview Tower for important cause

If you happen to be in Smithfield on Saturday, October 30th, you might witness some brave Dubliners undertaking a truly thrilling task - they will be abseiling down the iconic Skyview Tower for a very important cause

The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) plans to take over the Generator’s Skyview Tower to raise funds - and they're looking for some courageous individuals to take part.

It will involve a climb of the 244 steps to the top and the abseil downwards 190 feet into Smithfield Square.

Organisers promise it will be a "blood curdling, scary event", given that the tower is twice the height of Croke Park’s Hogan Stand.

There will even be views of Killiney and Howth from the top.

This is the first time ever an event like this will take place at the Dublin landmark, which was originally built in 1895.

Funds raised will go towards IMNDA who help those with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a progressive neurological condition that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord.

According to IMNDA, there are currently over 400 people living with MND in Ireland and one person dies every three days in Ireland from MND.

IMNDA provides specialised services for people affected by this disease such as equipment on loan, financial assistance towards home help, advice and home visits by MND nurses.

The charity relies heavily on fundraising events such as the abseil down the Skyview Tower in Smithfield.

Participants must be over 16 years of age but no abseiling experience is required. To secure a place, visit www.imnda.ie.
