A brave Dubliner has been hailed a hero by locals after fending off an armed attacker and even chasing him after a shocking incident.
The Dalkey local is pleading with residents who may have CCTV cameras in the area to help him track down the hammer-crazed thug who smashed up his car in an unprovoked attack.
The attack in the Hillside area took place on Monday evening just before 10pm.
He claims that one man walked up his drive taking the weapon to his car and hitting it about nine times for "absolutely no rhyme or reason".
But the attacker was soon put on the back foot as the car owner gave chase before driving around the village looking for the offender.

The resident is urging anyone who may have seen anything or noticed any suspicious activity in the area to come forward.
He said: "On Monday at about 9:40pm, one man walked up our drive in Hillside, Dalkey and took a hammer to our car and hit it about 8/9 times.
"Absolutely no rhyme or reason for the attack."
He continued: "I gave chase and then drove all around Dalkey looking for him but never caught him. Did anything similar happen to anyone else last evening?
"I've reported this to Gardai but I want to see if it happened to anyone else so that perhaps we may be able to collect CCTV footage or even a pattern of occurance."
A Garda spokeswoman confirmed the incident to Dublin Live.
She said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident of criminal damage which occurred in Dalkey on the 1 of February.
"One car was damaged as a result of the incident."
She added: "No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."
