Brave Deborah James honoured with Damehood after raising £3.9million for bowel cancer research fund

Former BBC presenter Deborah James has announced she is receiving end-of-life care and that it is time to say goodbye. In the last stages of her life Deborah has set up the fundraiser BowelBabe which has now raised a staggering £3.6 million for bowel cancer and been made a Dame, as The Mirror reports.

Deborah has now been awarded a Damehood for her work and revealed her reaction, she said: “OMFG, this is crazy. I don’t know what to say. I’m blown away and feel incredibly honoured. I don’t feel like I deserve this. I can’t tell you what this means to my family, it’s so much to take in.”

Since hitting £3.6 million Deborah is now determined to reach a target of £5 million. She said "It’s surpassed all expectations. I’d love to get it to £5million by the end of the weekend."

"Through her tireless campaigning and by so openly sharing her experience she has not only helped in our fight against this terrible disease, she has ensured countless others with the Big C have not felt alone.

"I hope this recognition from Her Majesty - backed I'm sure by the whole country - will provide some comfort to Deborah and her family at this difficult time. My thoughts are with them and Deborah should know she has the country's love and gratitude."

The 40-year-old has announced she could have "weeks at most" left with her family and that she spending her time around family and friends. Deborah has battled bowel cancer for the last five years and documented her journey on social media under the name BowelBabe.
