Brave dad Andrew McGinley opens up on final promise he couldn't keep for daughter Carla

Andrew McGinley has opened up about keeping the final promises he made to them.

Andrew's kids - Darragh, Conor and Carla - sadly died in January last year.

In a video interview with Dublin Live, he spoke about his efforts to "keep his children's memories alive".

He said: "Shortly after the children passed, I began thinking about the last time I held them, the last time I talked to them, the last time I kissed them and I suppose the last promises I made to them that I hadn't got around to keeping."

Conor, Darragh and Carla all had their own interests in life and Andrew is doing something to commemorate them all.

He said: "Conor and Darragh were prolific comic book writers. They had a number of their own unique characters that they wrote about.

"I am hoping to write books based on those characters which will include Conor, Darragh and Carla."

He added: "Darragh wanted me to get involved with some of the teams he was participating in.

"The best way to keep that promise was to get involved in coaching myself - which I have done."

Unfortunately, Andrew's last promise to Carla - to build a bigger snowman the next time there was snow - was never kept.

He said: "Carla wanted a snowman. So, in November 2019 there was a flurry of snow and we were able to scrape together a snowman about the size of a pint glass.

"I remember her looking at me at me and saying, 'your man Olaf on the telly was a bit bigger than that'."

He added: "The promise I made to Carla was to build a bigger snowman the next time there was more snow. Unfortunately, more snow didn't arrive before she died."

All of Andrew's efforts since the tragic passing of his kids have been to "keep their memories alive".

He said: "I am looking forward to throwing myself, for the rest of my days, into keeping their memories alive."
