Brassic's Joe Gilgun ‘made offensive comment about pregnant woman’s unborn child’ on set

Brassic star Joe Gilgun allegedly made an offensive comment about a pregnant woman’s unborn child on the set of the Sky comedy.

The 37-year-old actor, who created and stars in the show, reportedly caused uproar after making a derogatory remake during a break from filming.

Production is currently underway in Manchester on the fourth season of the critically-acclaimed show, which also stars Michelle Keegan.

According to The Sun on Sunday, the incident occurred when a make-up artist, who was pregnant, asked Joe to stop smoking marijuana while near her.

He reportedly replied with an offensive remark about her unborn child, prompting her to complain to producers.

Joe stars in the hit comedy alongside Michelle Keegan (Sky UK Limited.)

A source told the outlet that the cast and crew working on the show “reacted with fury” over the incident, and several others also allegedly complained about his comment.

“They simply can’t comprehend why Joe could be so cruel. It’s totally ruined what has always been a great rapport,” they added.

“The make-up artist was hugely upset and people have rallied round her for support,” they source said, and claimed the incident has “caused a lot of misery” for those working on the show.

Mirror Online have contacted a representative for Joe, and Brassic’s production company Calamity Films, for comment.

Michelle, who plays Erin on the show, was not present when the alleged incident occurred.

The source said Joe’s alleged comment has “overshadowed” the remainder of filming, and the rapport on set has been affected.

Joe has previously spoke about his use of medical marijuana to manage his bipolar disorder.

“I use medical marijuana to sort of regulate my moods. A big part of bipolar that isn’t spoken about is the shifting mood,” he said, according to The Sun.

Filming on the fourth series is currently underway in Manchester (Huddersfield Examiner)

“It’s not necessarily someone who is very depressed and then they’re hyperactive - there’s also a lot of stress involved because you have little to no control over the way you feel.

“I find marijuana can help me with that,” Joe added.

The actor, who has also appeared on This Is England and Emmerdale, has said his character’s battle with bipolar in Brassic is based on his own real-life experiences.
