Branston has managed to divide the internet with the launch of an unexpected new condiment - mixing mayo with sweet pickle. The unusual new Branstonnaise has debuted with the help of YouTube personality Chunkz and famed radio presenter Simon Mayo, but people are not sure what to make of the new product.
Branston is doing its best to convince everyone that Branstonnaise, which comes in chunky or smooth form, is the creation we didn't know we needed, saying it's the perfect combination of "tangy sweet pickle and the creamy texture of mayo to add a hit of flavour". Perhaps unsurprisingly, Chunkz is a fan of the small chunks version, while Simon has backed smooth.
But the unique condiment, which is available for £1.99 in Asda and Sainsbury's, has divided social media, with some saying it sounds "ace", while others convinced it will taste "odd". "The best news from the last 3 years in Britain," one person said on Twitter. "Perfect Mini Cheddar dip right there," another added.
"Sounds ace. Always have Mayo in my Ham Cheese and Pickle sandwiches anyway," a third person said. But not everyone was convinced.
"As much as I love mayo and Branston pickle, the combination just makes me think of vomit, especially the chunky version," one Twitter user said. "The idea sounds revolting but I can't help thinking it won't be too bad. A bit like if you mixed big mac sauce with mayo," someone else added.
If you're still not convinced, Branston says a dollop of small chunk Branstonnaise would go perfectly in a burger with peanut butter, while Branstonnaise smooth combined with crispy onions on a sushi roll would be delicious. They even suggested it could be used as a bonding agent in brownies, adding: "Sounds funny, we know, but trust us, they’re delicious."
