SOUTH BEND, Ind. _ Brandon Wimbush made the most of his return as Notre Dame's starting quarterback.
And in the process, the Irish moved one step closer to a berth in the College Football Playoff.
Wimbush went 12-for-25 passing for 130 yards and three touchdowns Saturday night, and the third-ranked Irish coasted to an easy 42-13 victory over Florida State at Notre Dame Stadium.
Wimbush, who also threw two interceptions, received plenty of help from Dexter Williams, who rushed for 202 yards and two touchdowns. Notre Dame (10-0) finished with 365 rushing yards, including 68 from Wimbush.
Wimbush subbed for Ian Book, who was out with a reported rib injury. Wimbush started Notre Dame's first three games before Book replaced him.
Wimbush had one touchdown pass in those first three starts.
He began Saturday with a 3-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Miles Boykin on his first pass. Tight end Alize Mack had touchdown receptions of 6 and 15 yards.
Cam Akers had two rushing touchdowns for Florida State (4-6).
