Brandon Williams latest as Manchester United make a decision on Newcastle 'target'

Newcastle United's chances of landing loan target Brandon Williams have been dented after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed he was staying at Man United for the rest of the season.

Both the Magpies and Southampton have been monitoring the full-back's progress but Williams is in Man United's squad for Arsenal and seems set to remain at Old Trafford to fight for his place.

The Norwegian boss said: "This season has been more difficult for him. I think he’s put his head down and worked really hard lately.

"He will be involved tomorrow, he’s in the squad.

"That’s the biggest thing, when you find your first big contract, you do well, can you bounce back after not being in the team as much?

"Brandon has shown that lately so hopefully he will just keep carrying on as he does. He knows my view on it, he knows my view on him and we believe in the boy."He has shown me that he has the desire to fight through this. "

Steve Bruce told BBC Radio Newcastle he had missed out on one loan target in the last 24 hours and said: "We’ve lost out on one in the last 24 hours, which would have been a nice addition; unfortunately, he’s gone elsewhere.

"He was the big target of mine but, unfortunately, got away."
