Brandon Williams issues fitness update following Manchester United return

Brandon Williams admits he is still lacking match fitness but believes he can still play a key role for Manchester United in the second-half of the season.

The 22-year-old has yet to appear in a competitive match for United this campaign, though he did play for Erik ten Hag's side during their warm-weather training camp in Spain.

United put in a much-improved performance against Betis on Saturday night after their midweek defeat to Cádiz, but lost to a well-worked goal from Nabil Fekir.

The main objective of the training camp was to work on fitness ahead of the return to competitive action in ten days, though there were still plenty of positives to take from the way in which their young side coped.

In particular was the return to action for Williams and he is delighted to finally be back on the pitch, even if he is still lacking in match sharpness.

"For me personally, it has been good," he told MUTV of the week away. "Finally back out on the pitch; it has been a long time. I came back a bit rusty, but by the end of the camp I felt good; I felt confident.

"I'm still not 100% in game minutes and stuff, but in training, I feel sharp and I feel ready, and I am ready for a good second-half of the season."
