Brandon Moreno’s tour as one of the hottest names in Mexico continues.
The UFC flyweight champion met with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Tuesday at the Palacio Nacional in Mexico City. President Lopez Obrador honored and congratulated Moreno (19-5-2 MMA, 7-2-2 UFC) for becoming the first Mexico-born fighter to win a UFC championship belt – the most prestigious title in the sport of MMA.
Lopez Obrador was very complimentary of Moreno, not only celebrating his title win but also celebrating Moreno’s efforts in inspiring the Mexican people to achieve their dreams.
“I want to pay a homage here to our countryman who, with a lot of effort, accomplished his dreams and even more when he triumphed in a very motivating way. He called the Mexican people to overachieve and not see anything impossible in life,” Lopez Obrador said in Spanish in a video posted across his social media accounts. “When there’s perseverance, when there’s discipline, when there is will, nothing is impossible.”
Moreno won the UFC’s 125-pound title last month at UFC 263. The 27-year-old dethroned then-champion Deiveson Figueiredo in the co-main event of the card, dispatching him with a third-round submission.
Moreno is currently unbeaten in his past seven performances. He also previously held the LFA flyweight belt.
