Retired New England Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather had a strong takeaway after Week 1. He saw a resemblance that so many people have seen. He felt Mac Jones looked like the man who ran the Patriots offense for 20 years (and won six Super Bowls with the team).
Meriweather reflected upon the Patriots quarterback battle, in which Jones beat out Cam Newton, who felt he got “bamboozled” by the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols. And Meriweather made a lofty comparison for Jones.
“I don’t think Cam got bamboozled at all. I think Cam lost the battle. Mac Jones looked like the prototype Patriots quarterback. He looked like a young Tom Brady,” Meriweather said. “When Cam missed them days, they actually got a chance to watch Mac Jones and people love what they see.”
