Brandon Barker suffers Rangers injury blow as Steven Gerrard watches Glasgow Cup defeat from the stands

Brandon Barker faces a Rangers injury sweat after the winger limped off during Tuesday's 2-0 Glasgow Cup defeat to Partick Thistle.

Steven Gerrard was on hand to keep close tabs on the Colts side, with the stars of tomorrow and fringe players coming up short.

But the Ibrox boss will have been left even more concerned after Barker 's night was cut short after 67 minutes.

Rangers huffed and puffed but couldn't get the better of the Championship side who netted late on through Lewis Mansell and Alex Jones.

There was a return for 20-year-old Ibrox academy star Serge Atakayi after he made a social media plea for more game time on Tuesday.

Jake Hastie and Matt Polster also earned valuable minutes during the clash at Dumbarton's C&G Systems Stadium.

Gerrard, who was joined by Ibrox assistant Gary McAllister, watched on as rising stars Dapo Mebude and Lewis Mayo played their part.

But the injury to Barker will hurt the Rangers manager more than the result with big games on the horizon.

The victory is a boost for Gary Caldwell after Thistle's Championship capitulation to Morton last Friday.
