Brand new Lamborghini wrecked in M1 crash '20 minutes after purchase'

A brand new Lamborghini has been wrecked in a crash on the M1 in Yorkshire, after reportedly being purchased just 20 minutes earlier.

Police in West Yorkshire tweeted pictures of the destroyed sports car after the accident near Wakefield on Wednesday.

The crash happened just after 1pm on the southbound carriageway between Junction 40 at Flushdyke and Junction 39 at Durkar, West Yorkshire Police said

A police spokeswoman confirmed the Lamborghini and a van had collided, leaving the van driver with head injuries, which are not believed to be serious.

In a now-deleted post, shared by Pc Richard Whiteley, he said the Lamborghini driver stopped in the outside lane due to some kind of mechanical breakdown.(PA)

In a now-deleted post, shared by Pc Richard Whiteley, he said the Lamborghini driver stopped in the outside lane due to some kind of mechanical breakdown.

He added that the Lamborghini was then hit by a van from behind.

The new car had apparently been purchased just 20 minutes earlier.

It is estimated to have cost just over £200,000 – a sum which could buy you a detached house in that part of West Yorkshire.

The post read: “M1 Ossett today – It’s only a car! But on this occasion a 20 minute old brand new Lamborghini that stopped due mechanical failure in lane 3 them hit from behind by an innocent motorist #couldhavecried.”

The Evening Standard has contacted West Yorkshire Police for comment.
