Brand new adventure dog park to launch in Cwmbran

A new dog adventure park is set to open in Wales.

Torfaen Council has approved a planning application for the new venue. The plan included details of a centre where dog owners can leave their pets while at work and will be able to take up to 40 dogs at a time in the day care unit.

There will also be a number of obstacles for the dogs which will be enclosed by a mesh fence.

The application proposed that the Little Cwrt Bach Farm on Pentre Lane in Cwmbran be changed from agricultural use to a centre for dog care and an animal exercise area.

It would also include a “meet and greet” shed, parking and permission for a variety of new paths and altered access.

A planting scheme will be introduced as well as the creation of a wildflower meadow and construction of bird and bat boxes onsite.

During the initial consultation there were concerns about an increase of traffic and noise but it was decided that dogs barking in excess would be restricted from the centre. However, the councillors were reassured by the fact that the park would be pre-booked by dog owners at staggered times.

One thing it will definitely help to combat is the growing concern around separation anxiety in dogs who have spent all of lockdown with their owners. With the majority of offices not being dog-friendly , a change in routine and being left alone could prove stressful for dogs.

The park is hoped to be a welcome and necessary venue to stop dogs being left on their own after owners returned to work while it was also noted it might help to fight local dog thefts. It's a service that will settle some dog owner’s worries in the valleys.

Councillor Jason O'Connell said, "I think I start with what a brilliant application this is and I think it’s well needed for Torafen to be honest, long overdue."
